Learning Outcomes

The Duke General Management Program (GMP) empowers experienced professionals to cultivate strategic, managerial, and analytical skills for cross-functional leadership, enabling them to design and implement innovative, data-driven solutions that drive long-term organizational success in a dynamic global business environment.

Capstone Project

The Duke General Management Program covers many topics, connecting to the many roles that organizational and team leaders play. A partial list of topics covered in the Duke GMP include People & Systems Management, Strategy & Strategic Management, Data Analytics & Decision-Making, Digital Transformation & Technology Management, Operations Management, Financial Management, Managing Innovation, Marketing Management, and Leadership & Influence. Central to these topics is value creation for the organization internally with stakeholders and/or externally with customers and clients.

The capstone project for the Duke General Management Program involves each participant developing a strategic plan for an opportunity related to the topics covered in the program and applying the plan in their company, division, business function, or product line. Projects should consider and integrate across several dimensions of the topics covered in the program. The capstone should emphasize the impact on key stakeholders and related value creation opportunities. The project is largely self-directed by program participants, though there will be periodic group check-ins with the full cohort as well as small peer groups outside of designated faculty teaching sessions. During the last module of the program, participants will present their projects to a small peer group in break-out sessions. Participants in each break-out session will choose one capstone project to be presented to the full cohort on the final day of the program.

  1. Identify the Opportunity: Methodically analyze the chosen area to identify a topic.
  2. Develop a Plan: Design a plan for improvement for the opportunity identified in Phase I.
  3. Stakeholder Communication: Develop effective communication strategies to convey the financial strategy to internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Implementation Roadmap: Create a detailed roadmap to implement the proposed financial strategy, including key milestones, resource allocation, etc.
  5. Continuous Monitoring and Adaptation: Establish a framework to continuously monitor the financial performance and market dynamics.
